Man has been searching for entertainment ever since he came to this world. Often the pleasure and need were combined. He started hunting to feed himself and when he realized that he could survive without killing animals it turned into a form of leisure. When man moved to currencies for trade, the greed of getting more money for a less strenuous work turned playing cards into gambling. As we all now relies the importance of money in our daily lives, getting a little extra spending power in our pockets never hurts.

With the advent of internet people have moved away from traditional forms of playing cards. Wherein once only a few friends used to get together for a game of cards or probably a casino in town would be enough to satisfy the greed, online gambling and casinos now have replaced not only the bars and fights that were commonplace then, but also the amount of money that can be made.

One of the fastest growing and most rewarding online games is that of poker. Poker has as much been a game as it has been a way of life to many people which is ably depicted in some of Hollywood’s classic movies. Previously, the game used to be played only at casinos or poker rooms, entering which seemed an intimidating task for the uninitiated. The casinos these days don’t consider poker to be an economically viable option because the game requires a huge table to be set up and also chances of disputes are significantly higher in this game compared to other games that a casino can offer.

This problem generally doesn’t exist in online poker as a new table can be easily accommodated and a larger pool of participants is a win all situation for everyone involved. The players have a larger choice of tables and the host has larger size of guests assuring it gets more traffic and more cash. Online poker rooms are adequately equipped to handle various scenarios that might arise. Though this form of gambling is by no means the securest, but best interests of players are kept in mind by the rooms to avoid fraud. They have a mechanism in place to detect the hand patterns of the players and can warn players. Besides this poker rooms trace IP addresses to make sure no underhandedness happens in dealings.

Online poker is today a more than 5 Billion dollar industry which has led to governments sitting up and taking notice. A few governments around the world most notably the United Kingdom and those in the Caribbean have legalized online poker and accepted its financial clout. The trade is still barred in US though efforts are being made to legalize it. US with its stringent laws is truly testing the online poker community but the way industry recruiting more and more people, a formal recognition might not be far away.
